Relationship Week at Carolina

Valentine’s Day can make relationships feel extra visible. Whether you’re celebrating, single, somewhere in between, or feeling unsure, let this week be a reminder that relationships come in many forms. All relationships take care, communication, and patience.

Healthy relationships usually include moving through conflict together. Conflict might look like tension with a roommate, miscommunication with a partner, or feeling disconnected from a friend. When something feels off, that feeling matters. It’s information that can help you.

Pause before reacting if you can. Take a breath, notice deeper feelings, and choose a response that aligns with your values. This can protect both the relationship and your own wellbeing. Be honest and respectful. What you are noticing is important, and people who care about you will do what they can to help.

What Healthy Communication Can Sound Like

Healthy communication doesn’t have to be dramatic or rehearsed. Often, it’s simple and direct:

  • “I felt hurt when this happened.”
  • “Can we talk about what’s been going on?”
  • “I need some space right now.”
  • “I care about this relationship and want it to work.”

Clear boundaries create relationships where everyone feels safer and more respected.

Valentine’s Day can be a chance to show care in broader ways, like checking in on a friend, appreciating a roommate, or offering yourself a little more kindness. Remember that connection looks different for everyone.

When Relationships Feel Overwhelming

If navigating conflict starts to feel heavy, you don’t have to handle it alone. The Heels Care Network is designed to connect you with support when relationships impact your mental, emotional, or physical health.

The Heels Care resource hub offers a wide range of supportive options to help you find the right resource to meet your needs. You can reach out to CAPS for counseling and communication support, Student Wellness for coaching around stress and relationships, or Campus Health when stress shows up physically.

Bottom Line

Healthy relationships are built through care, reflection, and support.

This Relationship Week, give yourself permission to learn, to communicate, and to reach out when you need help.💙
