Join the MLK Week of Celebration Student Committee

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Keynote Lecture and Awards Ceremony was held on January 30, 2025, at the James and Susan Moeser Auditorium in Hill Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The lecture was delivered by Cheryl Brown Henderson, A nationally acclaimed advocate and one of the daughters of the lead plaintiff in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. Looking to build your leadership skills? Apply to assist with planning and coordinating MLK Week of Celebration events, including:

The Week of Celebration will take place from January 19 – 23, 2026.

All undergraduate, graduate, and professional UNC students are eligible to apply.

Expectations:

This is a volunteer opportunity that requires dedication and a passion for continuing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Carolina’s campus.

Meetings: All committee members will be required to attend bi-weekly meetings, starting Oct. 2025 – Jan. 2026. You may miss up to one meeting. Any additional absences must be approved.

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 6:30 PM (in person).

Responsibilities:

  • Design and distribute marketing and promotional materials (flyers, social media posts, emails)
  • Gain experience managing event budget, supplies, logistics, and operations
  • Collaborate with campus departments and student organizations to ensure events are engaging and representative of the campus community
  • Recruit volunteers and serve as a point of contact for event support
