Apply for the 45th MLK Scholarships and Awards

The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Keynote Lecture and Awards Ceremony was held on January 30, 2025, at the James and Susan Moeser Auditorium in Hill Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The 45th annual MLK Scholarships and Awards applications are now open! These honors recognize UNC-Chapel Hill students, faculty, staff, and community partners who embody the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through academic achievement, community service, leadership, and the advancement of civil and human rights.

Read below to learn how you can spotlight the passion and impact of you and your fellow Tar Heels:

MLK Unsung Hero Award

Nominate an UNC-CH staff, faculty, community partner, or corporate affiliate who fosters a welcoming and inclusive community at Carolina through their everyday work and advocacy.

MLK UNC Student Scholarship

Open to current juniors who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to advancing civil and human rights in the community.

Harvey Beech Scholarship

Recipients are selected based on (in order of importance):

  • Academic GPA improvement from the previous academic year (semester or cumulative for one year)
  • Contributions to campus life
  • Demonstrated financial need (impact of scholarship)

Application Timeline

All applications are open from Oct. 1 – Nov. 3 at 11:59 p.m.
