Substance Use Services

Student Wellness empowers students to make evidence informed, safer choices regarding potential substance use, focusing on non-judgmental, risk-reduction strategies. Through individualized support and campus-wide initiatives, we work to mitigate high-risk behaviors, reduce harms where possible, and foster an overall safer and healthier Carolina community.

Self-Assessment

An eCheckup assessment is an anonymous, interactive online tool that provides personalized feedback on substance use, suggests risk reduction strategies, and connects you to additional campus resources. They are confidential, free, and available 24/7.

Education & Prevention

  • AlcoholEdu online alcohol and other substance education courses
  • Assessment and research, including the national NCHA & CORE student surveys.
  • Campus Community Coalition: Partnership and initiatives to reduce substance use, including data collection and policy development.
  • Educational outreach and workshops for student groups and organizations. Request a workshop.
  • Carolina After Dark (CAD): Late night programs and events, Thursday-Saturday.
  • A community-wide social norms campaign aimed to create greater awareness and a healthier campus norm around alcohol and other substances by providing candid, data-driven information.

BASICS

BASICS: a confidential and non-judgmental two-part service to help students identify risks associated with their current alcohol and/or drug use and ways to eliminate or reduce these risks. This program is often used as a referral source from campus conduct or local court systems, but anyone can participate through a self-referral as well.

Counseling & Support

Individual Counseling: are you questioning your relationship to substances (alcohol or other substances) and looking for a confidential, supportive counseling experience to explore? Coordinate a meeting with a licensed clinician to see if our services are a good fit for you, or to assist you in connecting with other off campus resources.
